The WEEE Directive was introduced and implemented to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic waste produced and to encourage companies and individuals to re-use, recycle and recover electronic and electrical equipment. This minimises the amount of electronic and electrical waste going to landfill and thereby reduces the environmental impact of a more IT and electronic dependent society than ever before.
WEEE compliance does not just affect the disposal of IT equipment, any person or company disposing of the following has to use WEEE compliant companies or organisations:
· Large household appliances
· Small household appliances
· IT and telecommunications equipment
· Consumer equipment
· Lighting equipment
· Electrical and electronic tools
· Toys, leisure and sports equipment
· Medical devices
· Monitoring and control equipment
· Automatic dispensers
